About Stickhandling & Shooting

Two aspects of the game that require a lot of attention and development are stickhandling and shooting. We work with you on a ¼ size synthetic ice rink so you can receive intense instruction for a fraction of the cost of ice time. You will learn fundamental skills in order to give and receive passes, maintain possession of the puck and shoot. Most importantly, you will develop muscle memory, their confidence will increase dramatically and they will enjoy the game even more!

Here are some of the benefits of instruction:

Stickhandling

Learn to feel and control the puck without looking at it through:

  • Tempo and rhythm
  • Proper balance
  • Proper hand positioning on stick
  • Soft hands
  • Expanded reach
Shooting

Gain a harder and more accurate shot through:

  • Proper tempo when shooting
  • Proper hand positioning on stick for different shots
  • Proper balance and weight transfer when shooting

All of this will link skating skills to live game play. Skating skills can get you around the rink when you don’t have the puck, but if you lack a good feel for the puck and have to alter your stride to stickhandle, then newly acquired skating skills can be wasted.

How Do I Sign Up?

What Should I Bring?

Adult students are not required to wear a helmet but it is recommended. Otherwise you need your skates, gloves and hockey stick. Skating on the synthetic ice is harder work than skating on real ice so many participants choose to wear shorts and a t-shirt and bring their water bottles.
